Charitable Trust

This structure is suited for groups who exist to manage specific assets, such as money or property.

The governance of a Charitable Trust is not a democratic process in that the Trustees are not elected. The Trustees are the only members of the organisation and it is the Trustees who decide who should be invited to become a Trustee.  However financial protection isn’t guaranteed and Trustees are personally liable for any debts accrued

A Charitable Trust will be registered with the Office of the Charity Regulator (OSCR). It will therefore be required to demonstrate that its purposes are charitable and that its activities are for the benefit of the community.
